01

Source hierarchy

For UK clinical content we prioritise NICE, NHS, government clinical guidance, professional bodies and high-quality peer-reviewed literature. Commercial provider claims are not treated as clinical evidence.

02

Language

We avoid defining people by a diagnosis or behaviour where a person-first alternative is clearer. We do not assume everyone uses recovery language such as “addict”, “clean” or “sober”.

03

Commercial separation

If the site later links to paid services, that relationship should be visible. Educational pages should not manufacture fear or inflate screening results to drive conversion.

04

Corrections and updates

Pages should show a review date once the formal review workflow is live. Material changes in guidance should trigger an earlier update where relevant.

This page provides general educational information and does not replace assessment or advice from a healthcare professional. If you are worried about severe withdrawal, overdose, immediate danger or a mental health emergency, use our urgent help guidance.
