Respond to risk before shame

First check immediate safety: overdose risk, withdrawal risk after a period of reduced tolerance, severe intoxication, suicidal thoughts, violence or other urgent concerns.

1

Make today safer

Reduce immediate risk and reconnect with support rather than hiding what happened.

2

Understand the chain

What happened beforehand — stress, cue exposure, conflict, isolation, craving, opportunity, stopping treatment?

3

Change the plan

Strengthen what was missing: treatment intensity, medication review, practical barriers, social support or coping strategies.

A setback can be information. It does not have to become an identity.

Where next?

Turn information into a next step.

You do not have to work out the whole plan at once. Start with the option closest to your situation.
